Rajni Baliyan is a Sydney-based Database Support Manager with over 15 years of experience, specializing in PostgreSQL and enterprise database technologies including SQL Server, Oracle, and DB2. At Fujitsu Australia Limited, where she has served for the past 8 years, Rajni leads database operations and support for PostgreSQL and Fujitsu Enterprise Postgres.
She manages cross-functional teams, oversees service delivery, and drives strategic initiatives to ensure database reliability, performance, and customer satisfaction. Her role includes coordinating incident response, implementing best practices for database health, and aligning technical solutions with business objectives.

This session presents an end-to-end blueprint for migrating from Oracle to PostgreSQL using Ora2Pg, the free Perl-based migration toolkit. Beginning with the business case for migration, we examine how Ora2Pg automates schema export, data movement via the COPY protocol, PL/SQL-to-PL/pgSQL translation, and assessment reporting that grades migration complexity from A to D. Attendees will walk through the full lifecycle — assessment, environment setup, schema migration, parallel data loading, testing, and cutover — with a detailed Oracle-to-PostgreSQL data type mapping reference and a real-world troubleshooting example covering foreign-key incompatibilities between NUMBER and bigint columns.
